Hiking: 5 the best streets for a walk in the Ukrainian capital

Dobovo editorial staff have prepared 5 great routes along the streets of Kyiv, from where you can turn in any direction and find something unusual.

Andriivskyi Descent

It is called “the most Kyiv from all Kyiv streets”, and its glory spread far beyond Ukraine. Famous musicians, writers, artists and all those who sought the soul, spirit and heart of this beautiful city strolled along the paved road. It is about the famous Andriivskyi descent, which on its own became a monument to Kyiv and a museum of Ukrainian culture at once.

Where: walk from Kontraktova Ploshcha Metro Station.

Volodymyrska Street

It takes more than one hour for a tourist to get acquainted with all the sights of Volodymyrska and see all its corners. The street stretches from Andriivskyi descent and ends almost three kilometers, at the intersection with Korolenkivska. Some say that this path is one of the oldest in the capital: they were still used by residents of Kievan Rus. Of course, it is about individual segments, in particular, that connects the Desiatynna Church and the Sophia Gate. It is dated to the 10th century and is referred to as the main thoroughfare of Ancient Kyiv.

Where: Take the cable car at Poshtova Ploshcha Metro station, then walk on foot.

Yaroslaviv Val Street

Having overcome the third part of Volodymtrska street, you will see a turn on Yaroslaviv Val. It is impossible to notice it because there is a square on the intersection of the streets where the reconstructed medieval gates, called “Zoloti” are located. Day and night, Prince Yaroslav the Wise himself watches the order here, whom the jokers have dubbed “the man with the cake” because of the peculiarities of the composition of the monument.

Where: From Zoloti Vorota Metro Station.

Hrushevskoho Street

While the Mount Olympus in ancient Greece was identified with power, Hrushevskoho Street means the same in modern-day Kyiv. It is also called “governmental” among the people, because of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada buildings that are located here. But government agencies are not the only thing this part of the city can boast of.
You will also find where to strengthen your strength thanks to a delicious dinner. In particular, you can check out Saperavi Georgian Restaurant and the 24th 5th Ave Residence.

Where: from Maidan Nezalezhnosti or Arsenalna metro stations.

Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska Street

Last on our list, but not least – Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska Street. According to legend, it was here in 988 that Prince Volodymyr baptized Russia, but after a thousand and a half years, we can only guess. But the fact that you will have a great time, without a doubt, walking along the Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska. Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska is particularly attractive in the evening, when the city is surrounded by twilight and the lights are on.

Where: From Poshtova Ploshcha metro station.

You can rent an apartment in Kyiv on the site.
