Travel through time: Odessa

Port

The administration of the port of Odessa is connected with the history of the birth of the first custom in Odessa in the port territory; the modern look was received after the reconstruction of 1912 and was originally considered the main building of the Odessa custom, which gave the name of one of the oldest squares of the city, “Mytna”.
Odessa seaport became the largest port on the territory of Ukraine after the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence. And, after so many changes, it is the heart of Odessa, which is built of metal and glass.

Potiomkinski Stairs

At first it consisted of 200 steps separated by squares on 10 equal marches. At present, the stairs consist of 10 marches and 192 steps, as with the expansion of the port territory and the device of the bulky waterfront, the lower 8 degrees were lost.

Arcadia

Arcadia beach was chosen by founders of the city to accommodate the resort, as getting to many famous beaches of Odessa was needed on steep cliffs and descents. At the same time is a natural sloping descent, which by its origin is ravine goes the Arcadia area.
Modern Arcadia is known for its large number of public establishments, many sanatoriums and hotels.

Mytna square

Mytna square has gathered in its territory many historical monuments and became an important transport link in the city. The official date of its creation is 1828 when it was called Karantynna square. It was renamed Platonivska in 1831, and since 1835 the square became Mytna.

Railway station

The grand opening of the Odessa Railway Station took place in 1884. The railway station building was destroyed during the war in 1942. And in 1952, under the project of Chuprin architect, a new building was opened, which inherited the old scheme of construction. However, with the naked eye, one can see how much modern Pryvokzalna square and the station itself are different from old buildings.

Derybasivska street

Each millimetre of this unique place retains the memory of some of the famous events. There are not so many monuments on the street but it is the main attraction of the city. The brushwood pavement of the street and the lack of a motor vehicle helps immerse themselves in the silence and charming atmosphere of the mysteriousness and great history of this place.
