A mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a homemaker, the list of a woman's duties are endless but at the same time she still manages to be humble, honest, hardworking, caring, loving, trustworthy, beautiful, savy...a complete package! How? I read quite an interesting article recently titled ' Are women human?'. If you account for all the roles that she plays, it may be appropriate to call her superhuman but if you take into account social stigma, in spite of the times of the so-called modern day world, it is an appropriate question to ponder upon. Since time immemorial, women have had to fight for their equality, rights and freedom. Most of them accepted their ordeal and went about their household chores, but the ones that went against the social appropriateness of being more 'womanly' are the ones that actually made a difference to todays XX community. Strong and confident women are what we need! Cultural differences cast a huge impact on the position of women in the society. Whilst female infanticide and practices such as dowry may be more obvious discriminations, this phenomenon also exists in developed countries in more concealed and 'law-abiding' forms.
Just wanted to reach out to all my beautiful ladies out there to wish you a happy Women's Day! Believe in yourself and in women empowerment and don't ever back off against discrimination and oppression. The world needs you in all your forms and roles for the continuation of existence and the development of an equal, just and loving society!
I was pleasantly surprised by the flowers that I received at work! After all, there may be a few perks of being the only woman in the office :D Topped off with homemade carrot cake...life is good!
