1. Balmoral Castle

The estate itself was bought for the crown by Queen Victoria in the year 1852, and since then each generation of the Royal family has continued to add to it – so that the total estate now covers more than 49,000 acres!

2. The Glen Garioch Distillery

For anyone with an interest in fine whiskies, there’s one site in particular that you simply must visit during a trip to Aberdeenshire. The distillery at Glen Garioch was originally founded in 1797, which makes it one of the earliest surviving distilleries anywhere in Scotland. You can see how they still produce their whisky at the site, as well as getting the opportunity to try the end result for yourself.

5. Dean's Shortbread Visitor Centre

One thing you really must try during any short break Scotland, is the delicious local shortbread. At Dean's Shortbread Visitor Centre, you’ll be able to see how this celebrated Scottish biscuit is made… as well as trying some for yourself! Watch the staff at work, try a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant, or browse through the gift shop – this is a great place to pick up presents for friends back home, too.
