If you fancy a nice stroll during your visit to Innsbruck, be sure to check out the Hofgarten. Not far from your hotel Innsbruck, this protected Park is on the edge of the Old Town and spans across ten hectares.

The Garden has existed for over 600 years and it features a variety of iconic garden styles such as French formal gardens, English landscape gardens and Renaissance ones. The last conversion that took place here was designed by Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell, but was carried out over forty years later by an unknown landscape designer. The garden itself is managed by the Austrian Federal Gardens department within the Ministry of the Environment.

This recreation area is a great place to escape the city centre and enjoy the variety of trees and ponds, the Palm House, the garden restaurant and even the children’s play park if the kids get a bit restless. There are even plants still here today that Austrian Empress Maria Theresa planted herself whilst the main pavilion in the centre of the park dates back to 1733.this is where you can catch main events such as concerts and chess tournaments, especially on the large chessboard here. Walking on the ornate lawns is not allowed but there is a lawn if you would like to simply sunbathe your worries away, whilst the more eager lot can enjoy the palm house which features over 1700 different species of plants and is often open on working days. Sometimes in the summer, there may be temporary art and sculpture exhibitions in the palm house which will extend its hours to the weekends.

Vienna does not just have to be about the loud and glaring city scene. Whilst it can offer that, it will also provide you luscious greens and strolling walkways. There are many hotels Vienna available but if you are more of the relaxing type, consider getting one close to the Old Town so you can enjoy this amazing park. Walk your dreams away or simply lay back in the calm sun, wishing Viennese dreams.
