SPRINGTIME FUN IN JACKSON HOLE
2013 has brought an early spring to Jackson this year; the snow is still falling, 300 inches and counting! Skiing the mountain resorts, snowmobiling through the national forests, and snowshoeing with a park ranger are all still happening every day. Mother Nature is dropping a couple of fresh inches as I type. Aside from the glorious powder there is much fun to be had in and around town while you are here for your upcoming ski trip. We would hate for you to miss anything because you were caught unaware, so we have compiled a list of all the can't miss springtime happenings here in the Valley to help you plan.

March 1-3 & 8-10
9:00am to 3:00pm: The Dick's Ditch Classic, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's premier ski and snowboard freeride/race event, winds over manmade and natural terrain in Amphitheater Bowl. It's a banked slalom, with a thigh-burning course like no other, big prize money for pros, bragging rights and belt buckles for amateur classes. New this year Dick's Ditch will span two weekends, one for skiers and one for snowboarders, both with qualifiers on Saturday and winner-takes-all Sundays. Round one will be March 1-3, Round two will be March 8-10, 2013. At Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
9:30pm Fort Knox Five & Cut La Whut. The FORT KNOX FIVE is a leading force in the international funk and breaks scene. Having released an arsenal of floor rocking singles and remixes, the FORT KNOX FIVE has the midas touch for producing heavy hitting. At the Pink Garter Theater.
March 2
All day: Grand Targhee Adaptive Sports Fun Race, at Grand Targhee Mountain Resort. All funds raised from the 4th Annual Teton Adaptive Sports Fun Race will go to scholarships for adaptive lessons, to support the School Programs as well as for equipment purchases. At Grand Targhee Resort.
2:00pm-5:00pm Broadsword Stage Combat. Taught by professional fight director Marius P Hanford IV. Stage Combat with Broadsword. Broadswords are wide, long, heavy two-edge bladed military style swords ideally used for slashing instead of thrusting attacks. Marius will teach the historical style of broadsword type swordplay as used on the stage and screen in such productions as Highlander, Monte Python and the Holy Grail, Lord of the Rings, and many more.

March 3
8:30pm Leftover Salmon. Their latest album, Aquatic Hitchhiker produced by Los Lobos' Steve Berlin is Leftover Salmon's first record in eight years and first ever of all original material. "Steve [Berlin] understood where this album needed to go and how we all needed to work together as a band to make it happen" explains Emmitt. Set for release on May 22, the recording process solidified the new Salmon, cauterizing old wounds and allowing fresh ideas to grow over past scars. At the Pink Garter Theater.
March 5
6:00pm Best of Jackson Hole Party. JH Weekly celebrates all those voted the Best in Jackson Hole. At the Pink Garter Theater.
March 7
7:00pm The Wailers Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. In England alone, they've notched up over twenty chart hits, including seven Top 10 entries. Outside of their groundbreaking work with Marley, the Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica's reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours, playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe. They have also been the first reggae band to tour new territories on many occasions, including Africa and the Far East. At the Pink Garter Theatre.
March 7-16
7:30pm The Hound of the Baskervilles. Adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel by Steven Canny and John Nicholson, this tour de force comedic retelling of the classic Sherlock Holmes story is sure to delight with three actors playing 16 roles, from a dwarf to a fan-twirling Spanish senorita. Supported in part by a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the C3 granting program through the Center of Wonder. Directed by Bob Berky. At the Center for the Arts.
March 8
8:30pm Talking Heads Tribute. "This Must Be the Band" is Chicago's only and therefore best Talking Heads Tribute Band; they only play Talking Heads music, and, if possible, 3 to 4 hours at a time. They formed in May 2007 on Craigslist and played the coveted pizza joint circuit, the most notable of which was the city-famous Piece Pizza in Wicker Park. Since then, they have expanded east to NYC and west to San Francisco. They have two main dishes on their menu: the first is a succulent "All-Request Show", with a generous helping of audience participation, flavored slightly by improvisation. The second is the hailed "Stop Making Sense Re-Creation", where they perform note-for-note and prop-for-prop the famous Talking Heads concert film from 1984. In 2011, they performed this show to a sold-out crowd at the Vic Theatre in Chicago. This Must be the Band is extremely happy to play Talking Heads music night after night because the music is just that much fun. Not only has the lead singer (Charlie Otto) been called "the illegitimate son of David Byrne", but the band boasts its very own Tina Weymouth (Jamie Jay), Bernie Worrell (Matt Gunsaulus), Adrian Belew (Otto), and Ednah Holt (Kasey Foster). 6:00pm Rising From Ashes Film and Raffle benefiting Team Rwanda. Rising from Ashes is a feature length documentary about two worlds colliding when cycling legend Jock Boyer moves to Rwanda, Africa to help a group of struggling genocide survivors pursue their dream of a national team. As they set out against impossible odds both Jock and the team find new purpose as they rise from the ashes of their past. At the Center for the Arts.
March 10
10:00am to 4:00pm: The Jackson Town Downhill featuring the heart-throbbing Mini-Hahnenkamm course on Snow King with divisions for Pro, Recreation, Telemark, Junior, Fat and Baggy and Snowboard. The event is the Club's way of recognizing that skiing - and ski racing - is truly a lifetime sport. At Snow King Mountain Resort.
March 13
The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle. Off Square is teaming up again with ArtsPower National Touring Theatre to bring this presentation of the beloved children's story and based on the classic book by Watty Piper. This production is geared toward young audiences (3+) but is great fun for all ages. This is Off Square's annual Jean Louise Thieme Memorial Children's Presentation. At the Center for the Arts.

7:00am-3:00pm: Caroline Classic (GS) Skiers of all ages are welcome to compete! At Snow King Mountain Resort.
8:00am-9:00pm AACT Wyoming State One-Act Festival. The American Association of Community Theatres Festival for the State of Wyoming. Community theatre companies from throughout Wyoming gather in Jackson for a one day festival of one-act theatrical performances and workshops. Each performance will be professionally adjudicated and one outstanding theatre company will be chosen to proceed to the regional competition scheduled for April 5th & 6th, again here in Jackson Hole. Performance and adjudications are open to the public for a one day $10 donation (accepted at the door). The workshops (to be determined soon) will also be open to the public for an additional donation. At the Center for the Arts.

8:00pm Lunasa. Lúnasa has become one of the most sought-after bands on the international Celtic music scene. The band's inventive arrangements and bass-driven grooves are steering Irish acoustic music into surprising new territory. On their first American visit, word-of-mouth led to sold-out shows and rave reviews. A standing-room only crowd in New York confirmed Lúnasa s reputation wrote The New York Times. This is the hottest Irish acoustic group on the planet. At the Center for the Arts.

All Day: World Championship Snowmobile HillClimb, the four day event draws over 10,000 fans and more than 300 snowmobile hill climb racers from all over the US and Canada to the valley, for one of the largest non-profit charity snowmobile events in the United States. Thursday Races begin at 9am and run to 6pm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday Races will starting at 8am and go through 6pm. At Snow King Mountain Resort.

7:00pm: Who s Bad, a power-packed tribute to Michael Jackson that has ignited crowds on every continent and can only be described as a jaw-dropping, musical must-see. As the longest-running Michael Jackson tribute band, and the only one to predate his untimely passing. At the Center for the Arts.
March 22
8:00pm 4 on the Floor. Armed with their debut full-length 4x4, which was released on 4/4/2011, In the short months since 4x4's release, The 4onthefloor's sound has solidified. On record, the band's trademark 4/4 time signature and four kick drum lineup seal together their delta-blues and classic rock appeal. On stage, singer Gabriel Douglas' grizzly baritone vocals are unmistakable; James Gould's sticky guitar riffs are infectious and the swagger of Chris Holm and Mark Larson's rhythm section is contagious. Inspired by The Doors, Muddy Waters, CCR, Howlin' Wolf, Tommy James & the Shondels and Waylon Jennings to name a few, all four members operate on the same hard-hitting, bourbon-infused wavelength while keeping perfect time. 7:00pm: Donavon Frankenreiter, a protege of Jack Johnson, the two learned guitar together and hanging out between surfing trips to the beach. Jack Johnson released Frankenreiter s solo album under his label, Brushfire Records in 2004. At the Center for the Arts.

All Day Totally 80 s Weekend. Get out your neon and style up your mullet because we're like totally turning back the clock for the Totally 80's Spring Break Away at Grand Targhee Resort. We are offering great deals through the week and a weekend of events that take the totally awesome fashion, culture and music of the 80's to the max! At Grand Targhee Resort.

All day: The 38th Annual Pole, Paddle, Peddle. The four-event race, where contestants compete either individually or in teams, consists of an alpine ski leg, a cross-country ski leg, a bicycle leg, and a boating leg. The Pole Pedal Paddle is a fundraising event for the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable Alpine, Freeride, Nordic and Snowboard programs to Jackson youth.

All Day: The 7th annual Jackson Hole Mountain Festival, 2013! An incredible event that delivers shameless outdoor fun over a weekend of skiing and snowboarding events, live music and spring sunshine at the base of the Tetons! A FREE concert at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and so much more.
March 31
9:30 pm Deer Tick. From the band that's been both accurately and inaccurately labeled just about everything this side of Top 40 comes a true-to-form rock-n-roll record. Scratch that, true-to-form is not Deer Tick's style. Let's start over. Naturally, after so many years of critics praising [and making fun of] them for their "folk" and "country" sounds and hardly ever mentioning the fact that they've also recorded virtually dozens of other kinds of music, the band wanted to make a record that was truer to their live set (which has gained some notoriety): raw, loud, heartfelt, and completely uninterested in whatever the hell the rest of the music industry is up to. To produce this record, the band recruited the team of Adam Landry and Justin Collins, who produced McCauley's side-project Middle Brother's debut album. The results are unlike anything you've heard on a Deer Tick album, but Deer Tick achieves something that is a lot more accurate to their live sound. At the Pink Garter.
April 5
9:00pm Minus the Bear. 2012, Summer. Seattle, Washington, something mucho significant was built by 5 dudes touch. It is called Infinity Overhead. When the air filled with this piece, heat, light, noise and color to be transformed into stream and traveled through the air with the time shift. Pull and push, depth versus altitude. This romance is like having a high tech air-in choccolata from east village. Once you put the cioccolato inside the mousse, something seeps out all around and it smoothly embraces everything they meet. During this process, all the elements start to kick in, sweetness, bitterness, sourness, and saltiness. Flavor dominates all over the mousse. It clings around and soaks in quietly, then fragrance starts to evaporate through tiny sky inside the dark, merge back into the air. Signals flow to the brain and it delivers the joy to the body through the tide. All commotion appears on the movement makes the body sweats and shivers. After a while all these processes change its shapes and fall. At the Pink Garter Theater.
April 6
9:00pm Toubab Krewe. Some music cannot be found on a map or within iTunes categories. Some music is so original it seems snatched from the great, invisible substrata that runs below all human activity, a sound aching to be born without a flag or fixed allegiance free, questing, overflowing with immediate, tangible life. This is the music of Toubab Krewe, the vibrant Asheville, NC-based instrumental powerhouse that creates a sonic Pangaea that lustily swirls together rock, African traditions, jam sensibilities, international folk strains and more. While nearly impossible to put into any box, it takes only a few moments to realize in a very palpable way that one is face-to-face with a true original who recognizes no borders in a march towards a muscular, original, globally switched-on sound. At the Pink Garter Theater.

8:00pm. The Revival Tour. Folk music was born from a rich tradition of giving and openness and no one has done more to bring that original spirit back to the genre in recent years than Chuck Ragan has with The Revival Tour. "It's an age-old idea and the way that families and communities have shared music for hundreds of years," Ragan explains when asked where the inspiration for the Revival Tour came from. "At the end of most tours I went on, everyone would end up on stage together anyway so I thought why not communicate more beforehand so we can share the old way collaboration onstage from the onset as the folks that came before us all did in the past?'" At the Pink Garter.

All Day: The Grand Targhee Resort 11th Annual Spring Cardboard Box Derby. Watch as cardboard artists and mechanics turn little more than cardboard, paper, tape, glue, and string into the most creative sculptures that you can think of like dragons, race cars, UFO's, and other themes.

8:00am Spring Tough Towner. Imagine Jackson Hole's OWN four-mile race where participants will complete fun obstacles, including crawling through sand, climbing cargo nets, running through tires, snaking through culverts, climbing over straw bales and helping teammates over walls!
