They are simple cages baited with bread, attracting all kinds of small fish. Usually a series of weighted traps are sunk, tied along a line with a floating marker at one end, so that the fisherman can retrieve his catch later. It is very obvious when the traps are freshly set, due to the bread bait. However, littering the sea floor of Hong Kong are hundreds of broken, rusting, abandoned traps that no fisherman is ever going to collect, yet they continue to trap creatures.
