Preparing for a Road Trip from Florida in Your New Car

Travel Experta, Expat Mama, Educator and Entrepreneur - Inspiring Families to New Horizons

Many people choose to vacation in Florida. But if you are a Florida resident, and you have just purchased a new car, you may want to head off on a Road Trip, away from the state. The most important thing is to make sure you are prepared for the journey. Doing all of this preparation can help make the whole experience more enjoyable.

The most important part of the preparation, if you have just bought the car, is to make sure you register the ownership. Road Trip or not, you need to research DMV locations in Florida, find the one that is closest to you, and go there to complete the registration process. Once this is done, you can complete all of the other necessary preparations for your trip. Here are ten tips to help you with doing this.

1. Check the battery
Before you head off on any long journey, you need to make sure that the car battery is performing as it should. It’s a good idea to clean the terminals with baking soda and water. If you do not check the battery, you could potentially have problems starting the car at some point.

2. Check the tires
If you have just bought the car, you have probably recently checked the tread on the tires. Even so, it’s a good idea to take a look at it before you leave. You also need to make sure the tires are at the recommended pressure level.

3. Make sure the brakes are working properly
Even if you have had the brakes and brake pads checked, as part of the car purchase process, you should still make sure they have thoroughly checked again, before you head off on your trip.
4. Clear the trunk
Even if you have only had a car for a short period of time, it’s a sure bet that you have already put a few things in the trunk; especially if you have kids. You should take any unnecessary items out of the trunk, before your road trip.

5. Be prepared for emergencies
Hopefully, everything goes smoothly during your trip; but it may not. You need to make sure that you pack for emergencies, just in case.

6. Plan your route
Road trips are far easier if you plan your route and account for any possible issues, you are likely to encounter. If you prefer to just see where the road takes you then you should ensure that you have a reliable GPS system with you. This is a good idea even if you have planned your route; it’s always best to be prepared for eventualities such as getting lost. Having a GPS system with you makes this less likely.

7. Think about accommodation
If you have planned your route, it’s a good idea to book accommodation in advance. Driving can be tiring and you need to make sure you have a place to rest.

8. Do not overload your car.
You should always check the maximum load for your car, so you do not pack too much. Aside from anything else, it’s also much easier to travel as light as possible.

9. What is the weather like?
It’s never a good idea to just assume you know what the weather is going to be like, in the places you want to visit. You need to know if you are likely to encounter any adverse weather conditions.

10. Keeping kids entertained
If you are taking children on the trip, you need to make sure you have plenty of games, videos, and books on board, to keep them entertained throughout the journey.
Hopefully, these tips should help you be well prepared for an enjoyable road trip in your new car.
