Kershaw Campground, Kershaw Ryan State Park Campground, Caliente, Nevada

Located about two hours due North of Las Vegas along the Great Basin Highway, you will find the small, historic town of Caliente.  There isn't much to do here except visit the train depot museum and Kershaw Ryan State Park. The park is unique in that it is a former ranch dating back to the Kershaw family in the late 1800's, which was later sold to the Ryan family around the turn of the 20th century.  Civilian Conservation Corps built up this park's historical buildings, including a wading pool and  restrooms shortly after it became a state park, one of Nevada's first, in the 1930's. The park's historical ranch is the limelight here, along with the many hiking and mountain biking trails. Events, such as weddings, can be had here and you will find simple, but beautiful facilities set among the towering grapevines that sprout their new leaves in spring. There are grassy knolls, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and of course the wading pool. The campground is set closer to the entrance of the park and is quiet, offering pretty views of the canyon walls this park is set in. Only about twenty sites are here, of which a good fifteen or so are reservable with water and electric hookups. The few remaining are first come first served and are primitive. Interior roads and pads are packed gravel and mostly level. Some sites are parallel to the main road and within the campground loop, and I would avoid those as larger rigs with slide-outs may have issues.

Good Sites: 8, 16

Poor Sites: 1,2, 5, 7, 9, 11

Hookups: Electric & Water

Potable Water: Yes

Dump Within Facility: Yes
