Located about a mile from the California-Nevada stateline, this wooded campground is located in the heart of the bustling South Lake Tahoe area. We traveled and stayed here for a wedding and found its location perfectly situated to easily access all of the weekend's festivities. The campground is flat and quite large, perched between the main boulevard that circles the lake and an ice skating rink. The campground is operated by the city of Lake Tahoe and offers simple, but surprisingly spacious sites without hookups or many amenities. There is the usual RV dump and water fill, but beyond that, not much. There was not even an attendant on duty during our summer weekend stay, which was suprising, but the camp was full of quiet campers. As mentioned, the boulevard that encircles Lake Tahoe borders the camp. Then, you will find a small, sandy beach offering kayak and paddleboard rentals, restaurants, shops, liquor stores, and the marvelous bike path that also takes you around the lake. We used the bike path along with the Lime/Bird scooter rentals to get around town. It was not only fun, but convenient to access pubs, restaurants, shops and even casinos. All are a quick scooter ride or longer walk away. Campsites here are quite spacious with fire pits and picnic tables. Sites in the A loop offer decent peek-a-boo views of the lake, but are set right along the road and are noisier as a result. In fact, we were surprised how busy the road was first thing in the morning and late into the evening. The road noise definitely will impact your sleeping schedule. Overall, this is a great place to stay to access all South Lake Tahoe has to offer. Note, there are often fire bans here to do fire risk, so plan accordingly and check local regulations.
