Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort, Felton, California

There are many state and private campgrounds and RV parks in the Santa Cruz area. We chose this one as a quick overnight stop on our southbound California jaunt. We liked the pictures online of the redwood trees and the concept of hookups. When we arrived, we were greeted by less than friendly staff. We settled our payment, which was pretty pricey considering we were staying only one night but were required to purchase two per their two night minimum stay. I hate those kind of restrictions. The park is in fact set in the redwoods along a creek. Creek access is not possible that we saw, and I would be cautious of booking a creekside site with steep, sheer cliffs along those sites. Sites along the paved interior roads are packed in tightly. You will have little elbow room here and no privacy from neighbors. Some sites are precariously placed. Most sites are pretty level, and all have dirt or gravel pads and a picnic table. There is ping pong, a common room, and a playground for kiddos. The office has a few meager supplies; mainly ice cream and candy bars. There are restrooms and a laundry facility. They do rent fire pits and sell wood. During our Friday night stay, we noticed that several families/friends had come here together and there was a bit of a party atmosphere. I think we would prefer to stay at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, just a half mile from this park.
