McLeod Meadows, Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada

We loved this campground and national park for its remoteness and stunning location on the west and less frequented side of the Canadian Rockies. Bordered by Yoho and Banff National Parks, you will find fewer people, no tourist activities or villages here, but we liked the lack of hustle and bustle and Instagram posers. The campground here is one of two in this park, and is located in the southern section closest to Radium Springs, which is another popular Canadian National Park. The campground is broken into a handful of loops, sorted by alphabet, with interior roads and sites pads comprised of dirt and gravel. Sites are level and usually fairly long. The G loop has two spectacular sites, G1 and G2 that have stunning views of the Canadian Rockies and riverside access. All other sites here are heavily wooded. Sites are fairly spacious, are all back in, and have the usual fire pit and picnic table. There is only dry camping here, but there is water fill and a sani station. Free firewood is available, as well as picnic shelters, and pit toilets. There are no showers. Bears are very active in the area. Despite seeing signs posted all over the several other popular Canadian national and provincial parks, we didn't see a single bear. Here, with no posting of bears, we encountered two black bears during our night stay. Just keep your campsite bear safe and be bear aware. If you enjoy hiking, a neat suspension bridge crosses the river from camp and takes you to Dog Lake. The hike is strenuous with switchbacks, but the area is beautiful.

Best Sites: G1, G2

Poor Sites: F1, F10

Hookups: None

Potable Water: Yes

Dump Within Facility: Yes
