This was is our least favorite Canadian National Park to date. The campground here is huge, with hundreds of sites. It is located in the village of Wasagaming and a short walk to the main beach and lake, where you will find grassy areas to play frisbee, a huge beach, and boat and kayak rentals. Although it's pretty here, we just didn't sense what gave this National Park status. A trip to the Visitor's Center revealed that logging was stripping the hillsides, so the park was created to protect forests and marshlands. There are three main biomes here: marshlands, forests, and alpine meadows. There are some trails that go into each of these, but most are not accessible from camp and require you to drive to the north part of the lake/park to access. During our stay, most of the trails were closed due to flooding from snowmelt. The campground has mostly serviced sites; some with full hookups and others with just electricity. There are oTENTik yurts available as well. Roads are paved and site pads are fairly level and a dirt/gravel mix. Trees and shrubs are abundant here. Picnic tables and fire pits are at each site and firewood is free and available. The village has lots of shops and eateries, as well as hotels. We just found this park to lack the remoteness of American National Parks that we prefer. It just felt too touristy to us.
