After arriving at Valley of Fire State Park and hoping to snag a first come, first serve site with no luck, rangers encouraged us to drive through the park towards Lake Mead National Recreation Area to the Echo Bay campgrounds. The drive from Valley of Fire is a pretty one, as is the drive from Las Vegas, but the campground itself lacks any real appeal to non-boaters. I imagine during the late spring and late summer months when temperatures are pleasant and boating on the lake is a thrill, these sites have greater appeal than they did during our mid-Winter visit. Sites are primitive and offer paved pads, fire pits, and picnic tables, but not much more than
