Colter Bay Campground, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

We snagged a first come first served site here during summer 2020 when large portions of nearby Yellowstone and many lodges and campgrounds in the park were closed. We watched the NPS website closely days prior to our arrival to see what fill times for the campgrounds in the park were. This is a great resource when arriving first come, first served (Yellowstone also posts this info). During this particular summer, sites were filling by early to mid morning most days. So, we left our previous campsite at 4:30 am to arrive at Colter Bay Campground by 7:30 am. When we pulled up, there was already a long line of campers also hoping to get a site. We were informed they would begin assigning sites at 8 am. By 8:45, we were granted a beautiful, forested, spacious site that we enjoyed for three nights amd it was well worth the process. Colter Bay Campground is one of several in the park and only outsized by Gros Ventre to the south. Colter has over 250 campsites. A handful offeelectric sites and some loops are speficially designated as no generator use, so make sure you communicate your needs with the kiosk attendant. The campground offers mainly pine forested sites with level, pull-thru pads. There are picnic tables and campfire rings at each site. The campground is adjacent to Colter Bay RV and Colter Bay Village. The village has everything you need and then some: groceries (well-stocked for meal planning!), fuel, visitor's center, boat rentals, a marina, hiking trails, a gift shop, day use areas, laundry and showers, and spectacular hand dipped ice cream in the store. There is tons of RV and boat trailer parking in the village if you arrive early, checkout and want to spend another day, or just stop for awhile before moving along. We loved our three day stay here and enjoyed hiking from camp as well as exploring the rest of the park. Colter Bay is centrally located in the park making it easy to explore other areas.
