Hua Hin Island,Thailand

Hua Hin, Cha am, Pranburi and Khao Takiab are all located in same radius and at short distance from Bangkok. This makes them quite popular weekend spots amongst locals. Though Visitors and tourist are not way behind as day trippers.

Way back in 1920’s; these places were favorite retreats among st royalty and high society. Even today elite section of society own villas and weekend homes at these places.

Hua Hin is adored for its beaches, heritage spots, golf courses, shopping latitudes. Less chaotic, ideal for travelers and family vacationers. Gastronomy of Hua Hin is not bad either one can savor local Thai Cuisine, Seafood, Pizza,Steaks, Italian, Indian & Japanese Cuisines. There are quite a few Café bars to hang around too.

In this post I would like to talk about not so miss able spots in Hua Hin. Just to reiterate that

Cha am falls in close proximity, so those with more time in hand can take a short day trip to

Cha am too.

To know more about Chaam read my post “Quiet & Calmer Cha am “on the blog.

Family vacationers can explore what’s there for kids in our post ” Best Kids Friendly places in Chaam & Hua Hin by Little Gypsy.

  • Hua Hin Railway Station

This is one of iconic sites, a station that was put in place to connect northern-southern rail line connecting Bangkok with Singapore in 1921 giving birth to the town called Hua Hin. Favorite of European Expats who travelled to enjoy sea side vacation.

Town’s first luxury hotel was constructed connecting Train station to the beach. Today this hotel has become part of Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin and Hilton Hua Hin.

Hua Hin Monsoon Valley Vineyards

Hua Hin is abode to an award-winning Monsoon Valley Vineyards. Encompassed by lush green mountain ranges, the vineyards are a solace to a chaotic soul. The place offers wine aficionados and tourists an amazing experience to wine taste, dinning opportunities.

Spread across massive 560 acres of countryside land amongst the Hua hin hills. There is a lot one can delight in at this place other than tasting- Try touring Vineyards on elephant back or bicycle or a cart ride.

Creative souls can paint their own wine label to create a personalized bottle. Group Tours can enjoy a game of Petanque, while sipping wine.

During the harvesting season -Mid Feb-March one can enjoy live Jazz, field harvest and grape crushing with harvest theme dinner of various Monsoon Valley wines.

Wine boutique at the Restaurant premises where one can pick their favorites from the exotic wine collection on display; Jams and Syrups produced from these vineyards are some other items that one can buy too.

Beaches at Hua Hin

Hua Hin Beach is known for its spectacular sunrises. 4 kms white sand strip not much crowded offering pleasing pony rides, banana boat rides, rent a deck chair or umbrellas. One can cotton to lazy hours of sun bathing or just rest their toes in water and sand. A chilled out volley ball match isn’t a bad idea either.

Down south is behind khao Takiap is Suan Son Beach known for its pine trees the name hence is derived from same. Another solitary beach with few locals and visitors; ideal for honeymooners. Activities such as water skiing, windsurfing and parasailing is available. It’s overall a peaceful beach.

Shopping in Hua Hin

Hua Hin has evolved in last 10 years. Growing popular amongst locals and day trippers led to a change in face of retail infrastructure too.

Few of the places that I recommend are

  1. Hua Hin Bluport Mall

Illustrated as the 5-star Mall of Hua Hin, the mall is as good as any premier mall in Bangkok. One can find high end brands, stalls, souvenirs. The mall offers promos and tourist discounts available all through the year.

Free WIFI, Kids Playground , Free Zumba and aerobics classes in basement are some of the highlights of the mall.

Mall is located on main road across the Phet Kasem Road. Just a distance away from Intercontinental Hotel. There is a kids entertainment zone called Whaley port and Cineplex offering English & Thai movies in 3 D on the top floor. Mall has a massive food eateries and restaurants to savor International Cuisine.

  • CICADA Market

If Vintage and artistic items is what interest you that this is one place you shouldn’t miss. Cicada is a night market catering to local artisans and crafts men. Jam packed on weekends with day trippers from Bangkok and Tourists. It’s half way in between Hua Hin and Khao Takiab.

The place has 4 sections called Art A la Mode -this occupies outdoor space and is dedicated to home wear, handmade accessories, decorative items etc., Art Indoors– Paintings, sculptures, sketches  on sale, Art of Act – place- Amphitheater where live concerts or music is played and performed; Art of Eating– open air food court to relish snacks, sweets, salads, fries etc. The place also has beer garden.

Must Do- Watch the video to decide if this is for you or not.
