Who Are You: Korean Drama Review

Hangul:  후아유

Female detective Yang Shi-ohn (So Yi-hyun) gained a special ability to see ghosts after waking up in a coma. She took advantage of that ability to help ghosts gain peace to leave the world by solving crimes related to them. Partnered with a young cop Cha Gun-woo (Ok Taecyeon) who believes only in evidence, Yang Shi-ohn had a hard time letting him know how she solved crimes. Eventually, the young cop came terms with her seeing ghosts and found himself in love with her.

All was well between the two until Yang Shi-ohn's fiance's ghost appeared. She lost her memory and couldn't remember the ghost before her. Upon discovering her past and gaining her memory back, her heart was torn between her past boyfriend who died because of her and the persistent young cop who was doing everything for her.

This drama is a combination of romance, action, suspense, and horror all at the same time. The ghosts are really scary, thanks to amazing visuals by Korean drama. One thing that I like here though is that ghosts do not hurt people like in other horror movies, rather, they just ask for help even though their appearance are sometimes gruesome. You will not see annoying scenes of the main character getting herself into trouble caused by supernatural creatures, thankfully, which seem to be a common scenario in horror stories. There are annoying instances though that I don't like when the main character detective decides to solve the crime by herself.

I  am not really into cheesy romance but considering that it comes with suspense, I can stand the occasional romance break from the edgy scenes. For those who love romantic scenes, this is going to be a treat for you.

I don't really know what is the magic in 16 episodes of K-drama. Most famous drama have 16 episodes but I feel like it would have been better if they have ended this drama at episode 15. There's nothing interesting really in episode 16. It is kind of a wrap up of the drama. I feel like I have wasted my time watching it. It's all about the romance between the two main characters after solving major crimes which I think can be left out. Aside from that episode, everything was great.
