Wesak (Vesak) in Malaysia – An Important Festival for the Buddhists

This year, too, Malaysians will celebrate Wesak Day. Traditionally, this religious festival falls on the full moon day of the Vaisakha month of the Hindu Calendar – and this year, it falls on the 26th of May, when Buddhists of the country commemorated the birth, enlightenment, and the death of Lord Buddha.

All three major schools of Buddhism including Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana are represented in this country and Wesak is an equally important festival commemorated by those belonging to any of these schools. Many practices are associated with Wesak; lighting candles at the temple, charitable donations, meditating at the temple, and eating only vegetarian meals are some of them. Those who were staying at the best resort Langkawi has to offer such as Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa will be able to witness these fascinating practices.
