When to Go
There’s something to discover here year-round; that said, November to February is when you can experience the best weather with average daytime temperatures of around 25°C and little rain. From March to May the heat increases, while the monsoon rains arrive from June to October; you can still enjoy travel during these periods however and rates will be less too.

Amongst the top attractions in Chiang Rai is Wat Rong Khun or White Temple with its stunning artistic creations. Also, of note is the striking Wat Rong Suea Ten or Blue Temple and Black House Museum with more fascinating artworks; other sites like Wat Phra Kaew, the Hall of Opium Museum and Chiang Rai Night Bazaar are worth visiting too.
Key Excursions
You can enjoy longtail boat trips that take you from the Ruak River to the famed Mekong River. You can also plan excursions to the town of Mae Sai on the border with Myanmar, trek up Doi Mae Salong to take in breathtaking views and visit the Choui Fong Tea Plantation. Nature lovers can head to the idyllic Khun Korn Waterfall at the Nam Tok Khun Korn National Forest Park.
