Mai Khao Beach is the longest stretch of coastline in Phuket. If you feel overwhelmed or feel like you need a break from your family and kids, this is the place to be as there are areas of uncharted coast that has been exactly as it is for over 3 decades. Here are a few things you can do here.
Baby turtle release
If you come here during the Songkran Festival or anywhere from November to February, you might be lucky enough to witness this miraculous event; Giant Ridley turtles come onto the shores of the beach and lay eggs. You might even get the chance to sponsor one if you’re here although your chances of seeing your turtle ward again are slim.

Turtle Village
Within walking distance of many luxurious, upscale resorts in Phuket is the Turtle Village. It’s a two-storey building those houses shops and restaurants and is the main shopping complex in the Mai Khao beach area. You can reach here easily from resorts such as the Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites and Villas as it’s only a two-minute walk and enjoy a comforting meal or do some holiday shopping.
Wat Mai Khao
This temple is quite frankly, nothing exceptionally interesting. However, hidden behind it is a magical bird sanctuary that is nothing short of paradise. There’s a large number of white birds calling this sanctuary home which is why a visit here is worth all the trouble. Although the road getting here is a bit narrow, driving through is not recommended as the temple authorities are strict.
Sirinath National Park
If you’re the kind to enjoy a good picnic, you might want to check out this park. It starts right where this stretch of beach starts covering about 10 miles of the coastline. So, pack your kids, a picnic meal and some blankets and lie in the blissful sun all day while your kids play in the water.
