Fun Times at the Mount Lavinia Beach in Sri Lanka – Laid-back Island Vibes Abound

Looking for a place to chill out by the shore, take in a sunset, play some games or try some foodie delights? All that and more await at the idyllic Mount Lavinia Beach!

Getting There

Mount Lavinia lies on the outskirts of the country’s commercial capital, Colombo and is easily reached via College Avenue off Galle Road; head right down this lane and (carefully) cross the railway track just past Berjaya Hotel Colombo and you will be at your destination!

Coastal Relaxation

Mount Lavinia Beach is the ideal place to unwind and if you’re staying at one of its beach hotels in Colombo you can begin and end your day here. It’s a great spot to walk your dog, build sandcastles with the kids, take in magical sunsets, or just frolic in the waves. It can get crowded in the evenings so if you are after some peace and quiet, visit early morning.

Fun Recreation

The active types also make full use of the sandy shores and it is common to see everything from touch (tap) rugby to beach cricket or football played here. Many people use the beach for their daily swim, jog, walk or exercise routine as well.

Dining Delights

Along the shore, you will find a variety of restaurants and bars taking advantage of the Indian Ocean backdrop. Loon Tao, The Shore By O!, Rasa Malaysia and Steam Boat are just some of the beachside venues you can look to try.

Help Keep It Clean

Do NOT litter and do NOT dispose of any plastics, wrappers or other items that may harm the beach environment.
