An unforgettable trip to Hiriketiya – A must see

From an undiscovered gem to a now buzzing tourist spot for surfing, some quiet time and the growing restaurants and cafes, Hiriketiya is definitely worth dropping by during your holiday in the island of Sri Lanka!

The hidden gem

Only recently discovered, Hiriketiya is truly a gem for those seeking a picturesque place to spend some time in. The blue waters and lush surrounding greenery are ideal for your Instagram pictures! This horse shaped bay with plenty of coconut trees is a must visit when you’re looking for things to do in Matara.

How to get there

Located on the southern coast of the island, the Hiriketiya beach is located next to Dickwella beach. Located just 14 minutes by car from Soul Resorts Sri Lanka, this spot is easy to gain access to. You can either get there by tuk-tuk, rent scooters or even book a taxi. You may have to take a 20-minute walk to the bay.

Playing with the waves

If you like to surf or would like to start, the Hiriketiya beach is ideal with waves of different sizes for all levels of experience. There are plenty of surfing schools around to help you get started as well with surfboards to rent for a decent price.

Things to do around Hiriketiya

Once you’re done enjoying the sea and beach and want to try something different, you can visit the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka; the Dondra head lighthouse. This lighthouse is also the tallest one in Sri Lanka! The Hummanaya blowhole is the world’s second-biggest blowhole, another site to visit!
