The south of Sri Lanka is known for its golden sandy beaches and warm waters which are ideal for a day out in the sun. Panadura beach has quite recently become popular with the local community in the evening. Panadura beach is ideal as it has a large shore area, which is great for just running around or if you wish to spend your day soaking up the sun rays on the golden beaches. In Panadura, hotel options can be quite limited, but recently opened properties like Jie Jie Beach by Jetwing are proving to be quite popular with tourists visiting this coastal town.

Panadura beach is not as popular as some of the other main beaches of Sri Lanka, so some of the beauty of its untouched beaches still remains to be discovered by the eager wanderer.

The beach area is also a great place to mix up and meet a few friendly locals or if you want to watch how the local fishermen drag their catch of the day from the sea, and they break out in to a chant / song as they pull their fishing net from the depths of the sea. Some of the fishermen will even let you help – it provides for a great photo opportunity! By early evening, you can even buy some of this freshly caught fish from the nearby road side stalls that the fishermen set up to sell their catch of the day.

Sunset lovers would enjoy the view as the sun sets over the horizon, painting the sky with a million shades of colours. Don’t forget to take your camera along to capture this moment!
Those who wish to can also explore some of historical monuments and sites around the area, such as the Fa Hein Caves, the Bawa Trail, etc.
