The Basin, Ku-Ring-Gai National Park
This is one of the most popular camping spots around Sydney, and it isn’t hard to see why that’s the case. School holidays bring people from all walks of life to these still-awesome beaches, and you can get to The Basin cheap via the ferry from Palm Beach. 40km south of Sydney, you’re going to find yourself surrounded by beaches, plenty of bush trails and national parks with a stunning lookout just north of the Basin campgrounds at West Head Lookout.

Bonnie Vale Campground, Royal National Park
This is one of the best Royal National Park campsites. South of Sydney, Bonnie Vale is on the Hacking River between Bundeena and Maianbar, which is located in the north end of the Royal National Park. The sites here are all unpowered, which might be ideal for anyone who really wants to get away from the hustle and bustle for a little while. You will also find toilets, drinking water, and warm/hot showers. Jibbon Beach has some of the best fishing you could hope to find, and this campground is also noted for offering some marvelous walking trails. On the weekends, you can get a kayak, and the area also boasts one of our favourite swimming spots.

Hawkesbury Riverside Tourist Park, Pitt Town
Located in Pitt Town, the Hawkesbury River has some pretty great camping spots. Access to these spots comes with a number of benefits, including easy access to activities like fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. The waterfront views are going to take your breath away, and there are some excellent bushwalk opportunities throughout. There is a boat ramp to take advantage of, and Hawkesbury Riverside Tourist Park is also pretty close to Pacific Park Water Ski Gardens and Motorcycle Park.

Pacific Park is perfect for those who want to enjoy activities like water skiing, and the tracks for dirt bike riders are some of the best in NSW, and it is a legal track as well. Motor dirt biking really raises the bar on camping and should definitely be given a try. Ideally, tag along with someone that has this experience, use their motorcycle to learn the basic, then get your own. Soon after, you will feel the urge to get the best Honda bike parts, Yamaha or whatever upgrades you wish to really take the course to its full potential.

Cockatoo Island, Sydney
If you want a camping getaway that isn’t going to put you too far into the bush, Cockatoo Island offers beautiful harbour and sea views, numerous activities, and pre-erected tents. This is a good spot for a romantic outdoor getaway that lets you focus entirely on the romance and convenience. This is also a terrific place to bring small children. There are some picturesque views of the harbor, as well as of the surrounding suburbs. Cockatoo Island is known more as a glamping experience which has luxurious and amenities like the Canteen and The Island Bar offering breakfast, coffee, and cocktails so you can enjoy on a gloriously sunny day. At the end of the day, if you like camping, but don’t really like a lot of the things that go with it, this short ride from Circular Quay is well worth exploring in greater detail.
