Things to do in the Maldives

A dreamy Maldivian vacation always starts with a lot of planning and research. You might be worrying about flights, transportation costs, accommodation and the itinerary itself. To make your life a tad easier this blog outlines some of the best attractions you should add to your travel plan.

Diving

The Maldives is famous for its beautiful blue waters, white sands and sunshine. However, there’s a whole civilization living beneath the serene waters. You can go on a deep diving excursion to see these wonderful creatures and diverse coral reefs; there are many diving schools and places that offer gear for hire and tour guides or resorts such as The Residence Maldives Dhigurah offer diving excursions as well.

Known among the locals as Haa Alif Atoll, Utheemu is located around 297km north of Male. This island is famous for being the home of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, the local hero who defeated Portuguese invaders in the 16th century. There are so many Maldives attractions to visit such as Utheema Ganduvaru and many beautiful beaches and sandy shores ideal for long walks in the sunset.

The National Museum

If you’re interested in the historical events and the rich culture of the land, you should pay a visit to the National Museum of Male. You can see a great number of well-preserved royal artefacts and antiquities alongside slides and presentations depicting folklore and ancient stories of the Maldives.

The Grand Mosque

The golden dome dominating the city skyline is symbolic of this sacred structure. The mosque was constructed in 1984 with the help of Brunei, Pakistan, the Gulf States and Malaysia. The mosque’s beautiful pure white façade is strikingly breathtaking although there aren’t any decorations or engravings on it. As this is a religious place with utmost importance, it is suggested you wear modest clothing and refrain from disturbing the devotees.
