Getting Naked in Fuerteventura

A Naturists Paradise in Fuerteventura

If getting back to nature is for you and you like to go naked and get your kit off, then Fuerteventura maybe the perfect place for your next holiday. Having just returned 2 weeks ago from the not so sunny island then, ( you can read the blog article when we go sun chasing for the day here, Sun Chasing in Fuerteventura ) I hired the car and set off to see and sample some of the great naturist beaches in Fuerteventura.

Even though the weather when I was recently there sucked, I could still see the huge potential for naturists on this friendly island. Boasting over 150 beaches and 125 miles of sand it has some of the most deserted beaches you will find, with long stretches of white fine sand. The longest stretch of beach is 17km running down the south-eastern coast. It lies between Costa Calma and Morro Jable and has the best bleached white sandy beaches with shallow turquoise waters that make this stretch of coastline a beach lover and a naturist’s  dream.

Whilst the island is naturist friendly it is obviously prudent not to go naked in the built up family beaches like the centre of Corralejo or Caleta de Fuste. There are plenty of beaches to find that perfect spot without spoiling anyone else’s day.

The Most Popular Naturist Fuerteventura Beaches

The Grandes Playas near Corralejo.

As we stayed in Corralejo just south of the resort lies the spectacular Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo. This was the closest beach that was within walking distance, although to get to the actual sandy beach where it is safe to swim, it’s a good hour walk from the town centre, a taxi costs €5 to get to the perfect part of the Grandes Playas beach at the large Rui Hotels.

However, from what we saw walking from the start of the beach from the left-hand side at the rocky volcanic rock area, nudity was accepted and practically the norm. If it’s an all over tan you desire and you care not to swim in the turquoise waters, then this area provides plenty of sheltered areas that you will not find on the beach.

Having said that there still are a few remaining man-made volcanic rock shelters that are perfect to keep the wind at bay, that is if you are lucky enough you get one. Occasionally these stone shelters are demolished by the local council as they are considered not to be too environmentally friendly. We were lucky to get one and we quickly stripped off and enjoyed the shelter from the wind and got some well deserved all over sunshine. These shelters are also perfect for going nude in private on the beach without showing anyone your white bits.
These beaches front the sand dunes of the National Park, and the naturists mostly use the beaches right side of the Riu Oliva Beach Hotel.  This is a great base for a naturists holiday and slapped right in the middle of the beach.

There are a few small Snack Bars/Restaurants located around the Dunes, with the best one being located beside the big Hotels, where you can relax under an umbrella with a cool drink.
The park is huge with sprawling dunes stretching for 10km to allow you to walk freely and uninhibited.

There are plenty of free car parking spaces next to the main road, the FV-1, and you can walk across the sand dunes to these beaches, it’s about 400 metres.

The Beaches At El Cotillo

Around El Cotillo on the north-west coast are a series of beaches and coves, that are popular with Surfers and internationally-renowned for Windsurfing and Kite Surfing.
Some of the more sheltered lagoons are also suitable for bathing. These beaches are usually not crowded and are a great location to lie and sunbathe rest without disturbance. Moreover, some of these beaches are considered the best nudist beaches of this island.

The Sotavento beaches, south of Costa Calma.

These beaches stretch for miles and naturists can stroll up and down the edge of the sea. Parking is limited to a number of access points, but all are signposted off the main road, the FV-2. This a great beach and a perfect place to get an all-over tan as you will find many if not all freely walk and enjoy nature as it was meant to be enjoyed.

The beach in Morro Jable.

This is another large sandy beach.  It’s about a 20-minute walk from the promenade in Jandia to the beach, past the lighthouse. You then turn left when you reach the sunbeds and head north.

As you progress just a few hundred metres north along the Jandia Playa, the ratio between nudists and non-nudists changes. As this part of the beach widens and it is further away from the promenade area, it is virtually all naturist, and this is the case right along the coastline.
You could happily walk naked for several miles naked and no one will bat an eyelid as nude and non-nude happily cohabitate on the beaches of Fuerteventura.

At many of the Fuerteventura beaches (except for Morro Jable)  there are no sun beds available for hire, so you might decide to either just sit on your towel, or buy a cheap beach shelter for protection against the sun/wind.  At El Cotillo or on the Grandes Playas you might be lucky to get a stone shelter made by previous holidaymakers that again offer protection and privacy.  You’ll probably have to get there early in the morning to stand a chance of finding one vacant.

These Fuerteventura beaches will also be used by people wearing clothes and swimming costumes (textiles) so if you are shy then try and pick a discreet place to get that all over tan.  The big pleasure in being naked on the beach, surrounded by other naked people is that nobody takes any notice of you.

Clothing Optional Hotels

On a final note if you would like to spend the entire holiday naked then Fuerteventura also offer a few clothing optional hotels with the Hotel Gran Natura based in Corralejo being a popular choice as it just at the start of the beach. The Infinity Apartments are also in Corralejo and vert handy to beach.

In the south of the island, there are few clothing optional hotels that will allow you easy access to the fabulous Jandia beaches. The Monte Marina Naturist Resort is a complex of self-catering naturist apartments in small and quite Esquinzo village on Jandia peninsula. The Club Jandia Princess in the south of the island is also a clothing optional hotel and has a separate nude bathing area, you can also you just walk straight onto the beach and take your clothes off.
