Travel Essentials

It feels weird to be back stateside. I forget how getting out of my “bubble” (if even for just a week) can open my eyes, and ground me again. Getting away really helps put things into perspective. It’s funny how even the smallest worries can be blown out of proportion. Then, one trip brings everything back to where it should be. The truly important things are still there, and the less, seem to disappear.

We just returned from the most amazing vacation in Mexico. A group of friends and I stayed in the most beautiful villa. Isn’t it gorgeous?  It felt like home, with all the luxuries of a resort. And the pool. Oh man. So legit. Right on the beach. I will definitely miss that!

The only thing, (and it really isn’t even a “thing” at all I suppose) is that it was SUPER bright. Plus I was sharing a room with one of my bests. So early mornings were rough.

So I’m sharing one of my travel essentials. (And frankly, since my room back home in the bungalow is also super bright, I’ll be using this bad boy there too.)

It’s the Slip Silk Sleep Mask. Have you heard of it? They are sold on Net-a-Porter. (Anything sold on that site is pretty much gold IMO.

It’s made of the softest Silk, and filled with something fluffy on the eye area portion. I sleep with my hair down to prevent creasing and the band didn’t crease it at all. Plus, the best part, it kept all the light out. Uuuuuuhhhh-maze.

The company also sent over one of their signature silk pillowcases too for me to try. I don’t have anything against the pillows at the villa, but who wouldn’t rather sleep on a silk pillowcase too? As children, we always slept on silk pillowcases hand made by my grandmother. I remember her alway telling me it was better for our hair. (You don’t wake up looking like a goat gnawed on the ends)

You guys, it was DIVINE. So luxurious! (And isn’t the box too cute?) And the best part? Your beauty creams don’t get soaked up into the case. They stay exactly where they are supposed to. On your face!

Second best part? Remember those early mornings? No pillow marks. Yup. None. I’m not an early riser at all. Even back home. I’m the night owl who wakes up as the third alarm on my phone goes off. Perpetually sliding into my 8 a.m. meeting just in the nick of time. The pillow lines across my face always give away my excuses. I’m straight up late because I sleep a lot. Now, I can blame the lines at Starbucks and not sleeping late. These gems will definitely be coming along on my next vacay.
