Living Room Update: Upholstery (The Before)

Are you ready for the ugliest post EVER? Let me apologize in advance for the non prettiness that I’m about to subject you to.

BUT. I just couldn’t help myself. You have to see the journey that these pieces are getting ready to go on. Starting with these vintage Milo Baughman Style chairs in all their ugly glory.

So, any living room makeover is going to have new furniture. Right? OR, reupholstered furniture, I suppose. Which is the route I’m going. You know what a sucker I am for old stuff. So when I happened across this pair (yes, you read that correctly. A FREAKING PAIR!) of Vintage Milo Baughman style chairs, I snapped them up. For $300.

Ummm. Yes. I know. Take a seat, take a moment to take it all in. I had to, too. Insane. Seriously.

I’ve documented everything for you via downloaded snap chat videos. Mainly because I was too excited and forgot that I owned a legit camera. I’ve left out all the videos where I curse. (You’re welcome Dad. And yes, I saw your snapchat video telling me to not curse.)

The seller chucked them on a Greyhound bus, and shipped them all the way to good ol’ Oklahoma. I picked them up at the bus station where I learned to never take a bus.

Apologies for the graininess and no photos. I promise to take bright and pretty ones for you when they return from the upholsterers.

Also, I’ll be having this beauty redone. Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s a vintage daybed. It reminds me so much of Singapore. Wide and deep seating. Uhhhh. Love.

If you follow me on instagram, you probably saw this photo.

I posted it a few weeks back over on my instagram account. (If you don’t currently follow me, you should. Search ScoutStudiosOKC) I’ve known for some time that I wanted a green couch. (See my moodboard here.) Needing your feedback, I posted this photo asking for your help in choosing the right green. Stay tuned for an update with the exact green velvet I chose coming soon.

As for the rug in the photo, it was a vintage find via craigslist! INSANE. Another steal for only $200. It needed a good cleaning. So I reached out to Ashley Whiteside of Whiteside Interiors. First off, this woman is an incredibly talented interior designer . The lady has got a killer sense of style and literally knows everything there is to know about decor, styling and buying vintage pieces. She showed me a trick that works on vintage rugs to help get any odors out. I sprinkled her special recipe on this baby and let it sit over night.

Unfortunately, I later discovered that the previous owner owned cats. Probably several. Because this usually no fail trick didn’t work. Also, it was super sticky-ish. So there’s that…. After realizing I needed to call in the professionals, I promptly sent it off to Tabriz here in Oklahoma City for cleaning. They came and picked it up and hauled it off at no charge. I’ll be posting photos of the after, so stay tuned. Here is a sneak peek of this beauty getting a baking soda treatment.
