The Basics: Bedding

I’m a firm believer in the idea that every gal should have a few essential items in her home.

(Yes, a puppy. But that’s not where I’m going with this.)

She is cute though, isn’t she? Although less than 24 hours before shooting this photo, she completely shredded a $20 bill and a sock. She’s like a gerbil. She loves everything more if its shredded. But I still Love her.

Anyways. Back to what I was saying. Every girl should have a few of what I like to call “The Essentials” in her home. I have a little list that I’ve put together that I think basically just make a home a little bit more luxurious.

These things aren’t massively expensive things necessarily. But higher quality and definitely make coming home and relaxing that much more appealing. So, in the first in a series of “home essentials” and what you should be investing in, this go round, I’m talking about bedding.

We all Spend an average of 8 hours a night in our beds. (Well, we SHOULD at least) That isn’t counting the time we spend laying in bed playing on our iPhones. That’s at least an additional 8 hours a week. At least….

In a world where we spend hundreds of dollars on shoes we only wear on certain occasions or outfits we only wear once… Shouldn’t we be spending our hard earned funds investing in the areas we spend the most time in?

So for this part of “The Basics” I’m advocating that you throw down on a few things….

Pillows Just For You:

An absolute must. For years I grabbed whatever the cheapest standard size pillow was at Target. Until recently I began waking up with the most awful neck pains. So I popped into the Sleep Number store here in OKC and did a Sleep Number test. Basically, I just laid on this high tech bed, they adjusted it until I felt comfortable and voila. They gave me my number and recommended a pillow for how I sleep. The ones I went with are the In Balance Contour Pillows.

These are the jam you guys… I get super hot at night. I’m totally that girl who has to sleep with the air down on 65. These pillows are awesome because they are temperature balancing. The (hypoallergenic) materials minimize temperature swings. I’m not sure how… I’m chalking it up to science. But They are awesome. Plus they have this nifty removable foam insert that contours to your body. Amazingness.

Sheets:

I’ve never really been a big fan of printed bedding. Or prints in general unless it’s Missoni. Because Missoni is always gorgeous. (Oh, and if you want to see another print i’m totally OK with, you should be following me on snapchat. I found the most insane dress that will be up on the blog and in the shop soon. Search Carissals )

Also, as far as thread count, I say to stay at 300, as a bare minimum. I also prefer cotton. It’s breathable, (like I said, I get hot easily) and it just plain soft.

So I fell in love with this Serena and Lily border frame duvet. It’s so classic. It will always look good. Even in like, 2059. Plus, if you’ve never slept on Serena and Lily duvet, you are missing out.

Also I like how the bedding matches my pillows sans pillow cases. (I can hear my mother gasping all the way from the ranch right now) Calm down mother. I would NEVER sleep on a pillow sans pillowcase. I just like that even the things you can’t see, match. Also, I realize I sound crazy. So moving on….

So quality pillows made just for you and quality soft bedding. That’s the first on my list of essentials that every girl outta own. What is on your list? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
