Hey! It’s Stephanie and I’m back on the blog today with a new series called, “Don’t Get Me Started”. We’re going to kick this first post off with the color Gray.
The dictionary definition for gray is: dull and nondescript; without interest or character.
Grey? Gray? However you spell it (I go with grAy because AMERICA) gray has had, and continues to have, its moment.
For the past 10 years or so grays have been featured in many home remodels and furnishing selections and is the most requested paint color at the counters. But, alas, I feel it has run its course.
Now gray is great don’t get me wrong. I have been searching for gray items for most of my adult life, before it was ‘in trend’ to have gray anything. You know that saying, you only want things you can’t have?
You can do gray right, it just needs interest.

I mean, have you ever seen a gray kitchen so eye catching? The hood is a stunner and the soft blush accents are wonderful.
As an added layer to this gray conundrum, I am passively looking for a house. Which means I am looking at real estate images, which means I am seeing a lot of gray. It’s nice and safe and appeals to a lot of buyers so I can understand its allure.
When you are putting boring, old, gray in a boring, old, box of a room it’s not exciting. There is no wow factor. Isn’t that what you want your rooms to be? And I get it, I really do. Gray can be a good solid choice, but let me present something else to you.
It’s about to get moody.

I love the depth that these dark, saturated tones bring to a space. It makes everything feel cozy and inviting, like the room is hugging you.

And you don’t have to go to black to get impact either. Hunter green, deep cobalt, mustard yellow are all great tones to make your spaces pop. They bring luxury and sophistication into a space.

Even stores like IKEA have embraced this darker trend, their 2018 catalogue was filled with these spaces.
