Chichen itza Bound

I’m one of those people who used to have a passport so thick, that it had extra pages stapled in to accommodate all the visas I needed. That was years ago. (And that passport was stolen when my car was broken in to a few years back. Why I carry my passport with me, is beyond me. Old habits die hard I guess.)

I miss the days of jet setting off to foreign lands and exploring old places. It’s something I vow to do as often as possible now after this much needed vacation.

I’ve only been to Mexico a handful of times. There was the time in college when I went down for Spring Break with a group of friends. We drove my car across the border to Mademorese and almost didn’t come back. Then there was the time post-college where I jaunted off to Acapulco. It was around the same time as several beheadings took place. That was fun….

So, eager to let Mexico redeem itself, I accepted with open arms when I was invited several months ago. We all needed a healing, positive energy filled vacay away from the stresses back home. Also, it was mine and another friend’s birthday. And to be honest, I wanted to drink margaritas with sand between my toes.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite vacation looks and what I brought. As well as some of the beautiful places that I’ll always remember and use for decor inspiration.

Starting with Chichen Itza.

While in Mexico, we all agreed that we couldn’t go without seeing one of the 7 Wonders of the World. (Chichen Itza.) From our villa, the trip was overall about 14 hours including stops at a few beautiful cenotes as well as the ruins themselves. Oh. And shopping. Duh. One of my favorite past times.

Knowing there would be a considerable amount of walking, I chose leather gladiators, my favorite One Teaspoon denim jorts, a fun tassel off the shoulder top, and my new Chloe Marcie cross body.

The ruins were incredible. Sadly, visitors are no longer allowed to climb the steps. But getting to stand in front was equally jaw dropping.

After the ruins, we popped over for a dip in the cenotes. Although the ruins were incredible, words can’t describe how amazing swimming in this underground cave was. It was huge. Jungalow, eat your heart out. The lush green foliage spilling over the top seemed to go for miles. We jumped off a cliff, swam in the middle with fish (creepy!) and tried to take it all in before we needed to make our way back to the villa for dinner.

Isn’t it simply the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever seen? This will be a memory that I’ll never forget. And I couldn’t have asked for a better group to be surrounded by. Lifetime memories for sure.

A few shots of the outfit post cenote swim. (excuse my hot pink bikini bottoms poking out the side. lol)
