Living Room Update: Art

Remember this week’s Living Room Update post on drapery? You may have noticed a few new things that I’ve been dying to tell you about since my last update. You already know about the rug. (Which came back from the cleaners looking pretty rad.)

But I’ve yet to tell you about a couple other additions since then.

Credenza: Printmaker’s Sideboard from Restoration Hardware. This piece is actually the dresser version and NOT the Credenza. The credenza in my opinion is entirely too short for a TV. At least for this room. I needed height. Plus, I move things around a lot. A short TV credenza would be out of place in any other room.

Coffee Table: This was an impulse buy. After pouring through craigslist for months, looking for the perfect square brass glass Coffee Table, I gave up. At one point I’d even considered chopping the legs off my dining table but then came to my sense. Finally, as if by some miracle, this table popped across my feed. It’s from Joss and Main and it was a STEAL.

Pouf: Another miracle find. I’d been searching for the perfect pouf in the $100 range for a few months as well. And to my surprise, on a quick trip to Nordstrom Rack I found this gem for under $50. I’m serious. It was the perfect colour and everything. Score!

But my most favorite of this update is by far the artwork from Art.com

Remember the Belle Isle Project? Every since working on this piece, I’ve been obsessed with that Buffalo Print. I love including meaningful things in a home. And to me, (because I’m indian perhaps and originally from Oklahoma) the buffalo painting evokes a sense of security. Brings me back to my roots I guess.

Design Tip: There is nothing worse (In my opinion) than displaying photos of you with a group of people whom you can’t remember their names. Like, why?? The things that you display should be meaningful, hold value, be sentimental. You should be able to look at the things around you and feel happy. Not confused.

So the folks over at Art.com sent me this beautiful John James Audubon buffalo print. It’s so gorgeous. And well made. (And huge) I knew that whatever artwork I put here, would need to be large scale. It would be the focal point of the room. It would need to include green, (the couch and wallpaper are green.) but I didn’t want it to be all green. So the browns are a nice touch, but the green in the background and the gold frame bring it together with the rest of the space. I’m so in love.

Stay tuned for more updates next week and the big reveal! (Well, the medium sized reveal actually… Once the chairs make it back in their beautiful new fabric, the room will be complete! After a few more fun updates of course…)
