The Tortoise is an animal rich in global symbolism. The tortoise represents of the beginning of creation, time, longevity, regeneration and wisdom. In reference to design the tortoise brings to awareness the concept of change and experience as part of the Life process and when used in the creation of the lyre echoes the vibratory sounds of creation for all to hear and resonate.
The tortoise in India is considered to be the first living creature, i.e. the progenitor, related to earth and the female forces of yin. In reference to the design of the lyre the tortoise’s shell enhances the emergence of a meditative state and the imaginative thoughts and feelings surfacing from the unconscious.
