Thoughts & Opinions, Part II

In the recent years, this quote has resonated with me. It restores one’s faith in humanity on the one hand, yet on the other hand, this could prove to be very dangerous. With that said, I’m approaching with a very biased view, and I’ll explain why throughout this entry.

First of all, I agree wholeheartedly with Mrs. Lamott’s sentiments. Let break this one down blow by blow:

“You own everything that happened to you”

That tells me, personally, that these event happened to me. I didn’t ask for them, I didn’t want them, but I got ‘em! So I have some liberties here, since I own this, I’m taking no prisoners here. Heck, I’m gonna have my way with this…

“Tell your stories”

Folks, it doesn’t get any clearer than this! We all have a story to tell about thing that we’ve gone through, both good and bad, these stories are yours/mine/ours to tell, period! I’m gonna touch in on this later.

“If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”

First of all, I say “fair enough” to that. The only drawback to this is that there’s a caveat to this. You might have a story to tell about a certain individual, but another individual (or God that same individual you’re spilling the tea on) may have a story to tell about you. Best I can say is use your best judgment in a situation like this!

All the same, tell your stories. Some things you just cannot keep to yourself. Tell your stories. Someone may be struggling with issues that you’ve overcome might be the voice that they need to help them get through it. Tell your stories. There’s some folks out there who deserve to have the tea spilled on them, eventually they’ll screw themselves over.

I mentioned that my views were gonna be biased. Mainly because I know what it’s like to be screwed over, and I’ve seen other people get screwed over. And when their comeuppance arrives, it hits ‘em big! Not to sound vindictive, or engaging in schadenfreude (taking pleasure in another’s misfortune-although some exceptions can be made), but the very least you and I can do is learn from it.

And that’s a story worth telling!
