Panoramic View from Bohus Fortress

Sweden is one of the countries in Scandinavia that has a well-preserved number of fortresses. Luckily, I visited some of them and the experience would always be awe-inspiring. I’m particularly impressed by the built and enormousness of each of them. Most of the fortresses in Scandinavia were built even before WW1. They were used to protect the land’s border from enemies. Like the other fortresses in Sweden, the Fortress of Bohus served its purpose in the 13th century.

Bohus Fortress (Bohus Fästning) is located in the municipality of Kungälv, just 20 minutes away from Gothenburg city. I happened to pass by this fortress on my way to work before but it was only last year that I got a chance to visit it.

It was quite a walk and climb up the stairs to see this view from the top but it was fun and worth the effort. I was fascinated by our guide’s narration of the history of the fortress that I forgot to take some photos of what I saw inside. Anyhow, after hearing some creepy stories I felt calmed when I saw this panoramic view from the top of the fortress.

The Bohus Fortress can be reached by bus from the city centre of Gothenburg. It is open daily from middle of spring to early autumn. After which it opens on weekends till October.

Here with our guide in their medieval costumes. When you visit Gothenburg, I recommend you take a chance to see the Fortress of Bohus.
