Verona: Hanging Around Piazza Bra With A View

Tags: verona arena

Verona is the first city of Italy which my husband wanted to show me on our first ever Europe road trip many years ago. We were already driving to the city when torrential rain poured down so hubby drove back to the freeway and stopped at a rest stop. Thinking it would be rainy days in Verona we decided to head to another city. Thirteen years after that trip we’d finally reached Verona with no rains this time. Gladly, I fell in love with the city the moment I saw it.

I intend to write a series of post about the places we’ve been in Verona. This time I would like to post about its renowned structure the Verona Arena and the equally popular Piazza Brá. The Arena is so huge and I like its impressive architecture. It seemed to me like an unfinished structure or relics of an ancient edifice.

We saw a lot of people heading to the Arena when we arrived on a taxi. Although it was hard talking to the chauffeur who didn’t speak English we understood it was a concert later that night.

The next day we spent time going around the city. When we got tired we sat at an open-air restaurant while feasting our eyes with the view of the beautiful Arena di Verona. I thought I would get enough of it but no, I would love to come back again and gaze all the same at it.

We had a couple of cold drinks to quench our thirst that day. It was a warm and perfect day to be in Verona.

This could have been my perfect portrait with the Arena in the background, thanks to hubby, for getting the whole structure in the photo, but it seemed I was having a bad hair day. Grrr!
