If you’ve read our blog for any length of time, you know how much we love Logo Embroidery. We also know how expensive it can be to get the stitching just right. So, we decided to do some research and share what we’ve learned with you! Read on to learn everything from the different methods available to dig the perfect stitch, to tips on capturing a logo in an efficient manner, and tricks for saving money without sacrificing quality.

What is embroidery?

Embroidery is a process of creating 3D designs on Fabric using stitches. The designs can be of almost any shape or size, and they can be painted or printed directly on the fabric using a dye sublimation or inkjet printing method. Embroidery designs can be created using a variety of stitches, or methods of stitching. Depending on the end result that you are looking for, you can choose from a wide range of embroidery methods. The most common embroidery methods are outlined below.

Understanding the different types of logo embroidery

– Flat-Back Embroidery – Flat-Back Embroidery is the most common type of logo embroidery. In this method, a flat, backing fabric is stitched over the logo. The most common backing fabric is a polyester fleece, which is cheaper to purchase than other backing fabrics. – Plane-Back Embroidery – Plane-Back Embroidery is also called a French Back Embroidery. In this technique, the fabric backing is stitched over the logo, but the design is then “turned back” to create the letters or logo on the reverse side of the fabric. This gives the embroidery a more finished, professional look. – Running-Back Embroidery – Running-Back Embroidery, or stem stitch, is a popular way of doing custom screen printing. In this method, the logo is stitched over the fabric, like a flat-back, but the fabric is then printed with the design. This method is great for high-volume, custom printing jobs and is often used to print t-shirts.

The Expensive Digitizing Processes

– Core-Cutting – Core-Cutting, also called rotary cutting, is the most expensive method of digitizing a logo. In this method, a computer-controlled machine cuts a “core” from a block of upholstery fabric. The core is the same shape and size as the fabric logo. Then, the logo is sewn on top of the core, which is what gives the embroidered design its 3D look. – Sublimation Printing – Sublimation printing is a process where a fabric logo is transformed into a dye sublimation print using heat. The dye sublimation print can then be ironed onto any fabric. Iron-on printing is a great low-cost method of creating custom apparel, but it’s not a great option for digitizing logos.

Tips for saving money and still getting a high quality stitch

– Use a pre-cut fabric for your core. Pre-cut fabrics are often less expensive than custom-cut fabrics, and they are easier to use for core-cutting. – Use the right type of fabric for the job. For example, polyester fabrics are great for plane-back embroidery, while cotton is good for running-back embroidery. – Find a local embroidery or screenprinting shop. This can save you valuable time and money, as you won’t have to drive to a distant shop, you don’t have to worry about shipping charges, and you’ll be able to get help with your design.
