We recently had the pleasure of doing a satin black vinyl Wrap on a Mercedes GLE 400 D AMG Line. Our client wanted a full wrap in Avery Dennison vinyl wrap along with a full dechrome in gloss black too, and some rear light tints in mid shade.
Below is a picture of how the Vehicle looked when first dropped off at our wrap and tint HQ in Gloucestershire.
Needless to say this is a very large vehicle and with our clients requirements is going to be a monster job. We spent many hours preparing the vehicle, this involves completely claying the vehicle and removing door handles, badges, trim pieces etc. etc.
The first panel.
Then and only then are we actually ready to start the wrap. It is always a great feeling to actually start on the very first panel and the team decided to start on the nearside front wing.
After we had completed the wing it seemed a natural progression to then do the front passenger door next, so we started on that.
This Avery Dennison vinyl wrap is an absolute joy to work with.
Once we had completed the passenger door (including door handle) it looked like this.
As said before our client wants the entire vehicle dechroming too in gloss black. He is definitely going for the stealth look by combining satin black against gloss black. We do an awful lot of dechroming including one on a Tesla Model X that we also recently completed.
He wants the vehicle debadged too.
After the front passenger door was completed it was then on to the rear passenger door. That was also nicely completed and that side of the vehicle now looks like this.
The exact vinyl wrap used on this job is made by world renowned vinyl manufacturer Avery Dennison and is called Avery Dennison Satin Black SWF 412.
Coming together nicely.
Next up was the front bumper. We wrapped this and also dechromed most of the front end too whilst we were at it. You can see some of the nearside is still incomplete. The actual dechroming is extremely labour-intensive but there’s no doubt that the gloss black is an inspired choice as it breaks up the satin effect nicely.
Then we turned our attention to the bonnet. Apart from the rear bumper (coming in a a huge 3 meters from end-to-end) this is one of the largest singular pieces of the whole job, measuring almost 2 meters by 1.4 meters.

Then from the front we went straight on to the rear of the vehicle and got the huge rear bumper out of the way. As said before this was a whopping 3 meters from end-to-end. Here’s a picture of the very early stages of application.

So how does it look when completed? It looks just like this!
The mountain of chrome underneath the bumper will be dealt with soon when we really get into the dechroming as all of that including the exhaust tips will be done in gloss black.
Although we have now broken the back of the wrap itself there is still much work to do.
Moving back towards the rear of the vehicle we completed the drivers door and drivers passenger door, then we started work on the rear quarter panel. Here are a couple of pictures of that area being worked on.
We also started to dechrome the window surrounds taking them from chrome to gloss black. The gloss black contrasts perfectly with the satin black.
By now the majority of the vinyl wrap is complete. We then moved on to the boot area of the vehicle, here on of the team can be seen wrapping it.
Here is a picture of it after. Note the chrome strip above the number-plate area has been dechromed, the bottom part (including exhaust tips) are also getting dechromed. Also the rear light bar area also still needs to be vinyl wrapped.
This is right about the point that the wrap really starts to come together. All the hours of toil are now really starting to pay dividends.
More dechroming.
We still had loads of dechroming remaining so we cracked on with doing more of that. Here you can see the tailpipe in in the process of being wrapped in gloss black. The diffuser has already been done.
We then completed the dechroming of all of the window surrounds, changed from chrome to gloss black.
So after 9 days we had finally completed it! This was a long hard slog but we are very happy with the finished result! It is extremely satisfying watching everything fall into place, seeing the utter transformation of the vehicle. If you are looking for the stealth look you will not get much better than this.
