If you are reading this post it is because at one point in time I told you about this blog and you took pity on me and decided to follow me or you stumbled upon this post from the interwebs. If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably noticed that I’ve announced the launch of our Kickstarter campaign on Friday, December 3rd in support of our new initiative: Break Free NYFW. 

Break Free NYFW is a runway show with a cause. We are looking to lead the discussion on Mental Health and substance use disorder within the fashion industry through fashion as our artistic medium. We have invited mental health and substance use disorder activists to not only walk in this show as models, but to be featured designers showcasing their collections for the world to see.

I have been truly humbled by the support we have been flooded with since we announced this runway show and would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you. Your support means the world to me and is the reason why I feel confident in launching this new phase in our brand.

I totally understand how awkward fundraising can be, which is why I would like to try to approach this initiative as an opportunity to continue to build upon the community the LadyCat brand has always embraced at our core. To welcome new, like minded individuals into the Break Free family and to give them a platform to share their art with the masses. As well as to invite those looking to continue the conversation of substance use disorder and mental health, and its space within the fashion industry through our monthly virtual panels.

In order to give this fashion showcase the chance at success it deserves, I would be eternally grateful if you could share this page tomorrow on your social media page(s), and to encourage anyone in your circle to please support Break Free NYFW. Especially those who are passionate about substance use disorder and mental health advocacy, as the main goal of this show is to donate to 10,000 Beds and their well established scholarship fund that provides those seeking treatment for a substance use disorder a scholarship to attend rehab. Which removes one of the largest barriers to entry and getting clean.

In order to meet our goal, we will need a strong start. A flood of donations early on signals excitement around the Campaign, and can convince Kickstarter that this show is worth promoting (to have their support would be a tremendous help)! With a successful campaign, we will be able to focus more on donating to 10,000 Beds so that their scholarship fund can help those in need. Additionally, if we raise enough money, we hope to be able to offer more Break Free events during NYFW each and every season!
