Create a Restful Bedroom with the Latest Design Trends

Bedroom trends lean towards comfortable and inviting. But today, when Gen Xers are more stressed than ever, restful Bedroom design is essential. Financial strains, a busy family life, and increasing professional pressure leave many members of Generation X searching for ways to calm their overstressed minds and bodies. What better place to do that than in the bedroom?

Start with Color

The psychological effect of color can depend on a lot of factors, including your own background and experience. But, there are a few generalities that hold true for the majority of people. Colors are divided into two broad categories – warm and cool. Cool colors like blue and green calm the mind and can even bring your heart rate down. If blues and greens aren’t your thing, colors with low saturation like gray, beige, and white don’t overstimulate your eyes and can have a relaxing effect. These neutrals give you more flexibility when decorating with other colors in the room.

Natural Design

Spending time in nature like a park or greenbelt can reduce the effects of depression and anxiety. You can bring some of those natural elements inside and get the same naturally stress-relieving benefits. A few easy ways to add nature to your bedroom include:

  • Houseplants: Houseplants come with the scents, shapes, and colors of nature. They can also have some amazing sleep benefits. A study conducted by NASA found a long list of plants that improve interior air quality. The spider plant, peace lily, aloe vera, and mother-in-law’s tongue are a few of the plants that made their list. These plants not only have a psychological benefit but remove biotoxins from the air, which can help you get better, deeper sleep.

  • Artwork: If you don’t have a green thumb, artwork depicting natural elements like trees, leaves, and landscapes can have a similar effect on your mind. Even artwork done in the greens, blues, and browns found in nature can be enough to add an air of calm to your bedroom.

  • Furniture: Nature-themed and inspired furniture continue to grow in popularity. Pieces made from weathered wood, dressers with branch-like handles, and chandeliers inspired by organic design might be the perfect hint of nature you need.

Simplify the Bed for Greater Comfort

Your mattress serves as the foundation of nighttime comfort. It should support your weight and preferred sleep style without any lumps or sagging. Today, there are many mattresses that are both comfortable and affordable. They can even be purchased online and delivered to your front door.

With the mattress taken care of, it’s time to dress the bed. A growing trend that’s made its way from Japan, called Wabi-Sabi, finds its basis in simple, comfortable beauty. Wabi-Sabi doesn’t mean shabby or cheap but tailor-made and purposeful. It embraces imperfection, which works well for bedding.

Natural fibers like linen and cotton may wrinkle easier than synthetics, but they’re more breathable and comfortable. A bedspread in calming colors (remember the blues, greens, and neutrals) made of soft fabric can look elegant and clean without adding a stiffness to your décor. Limit your design choices to pieces you love so that when you enter the bedroom, it’s like walking into a welcoming embrace.
