Meme Magic: The Five Best Memes Of All Time

Meme Magic: The Five Best Memes Of All Time

In 2017, there were close to 16,000 Memes just on Donald Trump alone.

There are so many memes on the Internet that it can be difficult to keep up with them all.

Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the past decade, you’ve probably seen the dank memes on this list. Check out our ranking of the five best memes of all time.

1. The Distracted Boyfriend Meme

This meme blew up in 2015 and is one of the best ones out there.

This meme came from an iStock photo. A Facebook group later took the photo and posted it to their page, using it as a metaphor for Phil Collins cheating on progressive rock with pop.

After that, it blew up.

This meme could be tailored to be relatable to almost everyone which helped it with its immense success.

People even made a series out of the pictures and made a version where the girlfriend is the one distracted.

2. Salt Bae Meme

Salt Bae became one of the best memes in 2017. Someone posted a video on Instagram of a Turkish chef, Nurset Gökçe, who looks a lot like Johnny Depp.

This man went viral for the dramatic way he had of seasoning food. He looks very stylish while he does it, and the Internet went crazy deciding to make their own versions of it.

People replaced the scattered salt particles with things like the words “unconditional love,” becoming a metaphor for sprinkling their friends or significant others with it.

3. Grumpy Cat

Grumpy Cat was one of the first memes on the Internet, starting in 2012. It is basically a cat that has a permanent frown on its face, and people use it to caption it with all sorts of unpleasant things that go on in their lives.

This meme started when the cat owner’s brother uploaded a picture of the cat to Reddit. After that, the pictures went viral. The page with the picture of the cat got 2 million views in one day.

The cat’s actual name is Sauce Tardar. Unfortunately, the cat passed away in May 2019, but the memes will live on.

4. Unimpressed McKayla

In the 2012 Olympics McKayla Maroney won a Silver medal in gymnastics. However, she was disappointed that she hadn’t won a gold medal, and the cameras definitely captured her disappointment.

As she was holding her bouquet of flowers, someone took a picture of her frowning, and the frown went viral. People were using it to express their annoyance at something.

A similar thing happened to Michael Phelps during one Olympic meet where he was wearing headphones with a scowl on his face.

This really just proves you can make a meme out of anything.

5. Kermit the Frog Memes

There are all kinds of Kermit the Frog memes on the internet. There is the one where he is sipping tea, or talking to his evil double in a dark hood (which is the more recent one).

The meme of him in the hood is used for when people are talking to themselves. They know they should do something (like go exercise), but then their inner thoughts convinces them to just stay home and watch TV.

All kinds of these memes took over the Internet and are still being shared today.
