1. Bonnie the Cow is Among the Inspirational Farm Stories

Bonnie the cow was a calf that was supposed to board a slaughterhouse truck. She heard the other cows crying as they were being forced onto the truck.

Feeling scared and knowing what was about to happen, she took off. While the farmers didn’t catch her, someone else did–a family of deer! 

Hunters who had set up cameras caught footage of Bonnie eating, sleeping, and living with a family of deer in the woods. Animal lover Becky Bartles, who owned the land Bonnie lived on, started taking care of Bonnie.

She eventually was able to get Bonnie to trust her. Bonnie was moved to Farm Sanctuary, a non-profit that helps abused and neglected farm animals. The rest is a happily-ever-after for the little cow in this sweet little farm story.

2. Birthing a Baby Cow Without Shoes

This sounds a little out there, but anything is possible when it comes to cows having babies and expecting the unexpected.

Bessie the cow was getting ready to have her calf. Thankfully, her owners discovered her having the Baby just in time-quick enough to get her away by herself.

Cows that are distressed by the sounds another cow makes can start mooing and causing a ruckus. Bessie’s owner didn’t get her into a pen without a fight through; the ground was so murky and mucky that she lost both her boots.

As a result, she had to help Bessie give birth while wearing only socks, in mushy, wet ground (which was naturally covered in cow poop). She also had to clean the baby for Bessie, who wasn’t too sure on her mothering skills (but eventually decided she wanted to raise her baby).

3. Peacock Thinks a Chicken is His Mother

One funny farm story involves a baby peacock that was adopted by a chicken hobby farmer. She allowed her hen to raise him from the time the baby peacock was a chick. 

Naturally, the mother hen treated him like her baby throughout infancy and childhood–and all through adulthood, too! Even though the peacock now boasts bright and beautiful feathers, he doesn’t feel complete unless he’s spent time with his mother hen.

To this day, he follows her around, roots with her at night, and even calls out for her when he’s lost. It just goes to show it doesn’t matter who your mother is, as long as you feel a special connection.
