When I first saw the name of this WOD on the board, I instantly thought of Oprah’s “Super Soul Sunday.” By the time I was done with the last set of 10 thrusters and 10 hang power cleans, I needed Oprah’s spiritual guidance.
And there was still more to go.
The first set was supposed to be 10 power snatches, but I changed it to hang power cleans since my right shoulder hasn’t been feeling great lately. I really wanted to suck it up and just do the power snatches, but after a few tries during the warm-up my shoulder was also seeking Oprah’s spiritual guidance.
Next to the 2 minute rests, the second set of this Superset was my favorite. Why? Because I was lying down and I’m all about being horizontal on the ground. It wasn’t much of a rest though since my V-ups felt more like the letter “C” on its back. The times that my fingers actually met my toes, it was followed by some choice words.
For the last set, I was supposed to do 10 bench presses at 95#. I did a few during the warm-up, and something didn’t feel right. Considering I like laying down I thought I’d be fine, but, again, my right shoulder was hurting. If it had a voice it would say, “Yeah, um, no.”
Like I mentioned before, I would usually work through the pain because most of the time it’s just an annoying ache that’s manageable. Today, I felt pain that could potentially get worse, and I just wanted to be smart about it. Plus, I knew something was off when I was stir-frying the other day and it actually hurt to mix the vegetables in my wok.
For now, I’ll rest my shoulder, mobilize it, and eventually get back to doing snatches again. And stir-frying without wincing and swearing.
