A few months ago, my dad came home with a Recipe Book with “Whole 30” written on the cover. My dad is infamous for being into those fad diets, so I looked at the book, rolled my eyes and asked him what this one was for, now. He explained that it’s basically just eating whole foods, very similar to paleo; except, with this diet, it comes with a huge recipe book and most recipes have looked fabulous, might I add. So, he stocked the cabinets and the refrigerator up with so many fresh foods (and unfortunately, meat).
2 months later, he lost ten pounds and absolutely loves eating Healthy, whole foods. Not to say that I don’t eat healthy because a vegan diet can actually be super healthy, but i need to get back on track, for sure. My main meals on the weekends are chips, salsa and margaritas or rice cakes, peanut butter and 3 glasses of wine. I just want to cut out a lot of junk that I’ve been putting into my body and start fresh.
So, that’s what I’m going to do – I’m going to start a diet (no, I’m not diet-ing) based on the Whole 30 diet but for vegans. So far on my weekend grocery shopping list I have:
Vegetables:
- Asparagus
- Broccoli
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Celery
- Eggplant
- Green Beans
- Potatoes/ Sweet potatoes
- Onion
- Zucchini
Fruit:
- Avocados
- Bananas
- Dates – pitted
- Melon
- Pineapple
- Strawberries
Nuts:
- Cashews
- Almonds
- Pistachios
Beans: (these are not apart of the Whole 30 – are recommended to get protein for vegans)
- Edamame
- Organic Tempeh
Other:
- Almond Meal
- Balsamic Vinegar
- Cocoa
- Coconut Flour
- Coconut Milk (canned)
- Coconut Oil
- Flax-seed Meal
- Hot Sauce
- Olive Oil
- Vegetable Broth
Most likely, I will not buy all of this, depending on prices. A little pointer, frozen fruits and vegetables are a lot cheaper than fresh, and you can still buy organic options! So that’s probably where I’ll go first. I’m actually really excited to get this started – I love looking for things to change I can’t wait to make a ton of smoothies, too, like this one!
