Mango & Strawberry Flatbread

The Trader Rater Rating: 6.85

Review Summary: We were confused by this Flatbread, and so was our palate. Dessert? Lunch? Dinner? After trying it, we're still not sure!

Full Review:

When we saw this Flatbread in the freezer section of our local Trader Joe’s, we weren’t quite sure what to make of it. Is it a dessert? Is it a lunch? Is it a dinner? After trying it, we’re still not sure 🙂

First off, this dish is very sweet. Not a huge surprise given the Mango and Strawberry topping, but it does kind of taste like jelly or preserves vs. fresh fruit. So, yes, it’s kind of a dessert…

But then came the savory cheese and the flavorful crust. We’re not talking about a pie crust, this was straight up pizza crust. Both were good, and very savory. So, yes, it’s kind of a dinner…

Confused? So were we. And so was our palate.

The flavors didn’t seem to blend well. They weren’t complimentary. It felt like we were eating two distinct things, together as one.

If you like Hawaiian Pizza, maybe this dish is worth a try. But if you think it’s down right strange to put sweets on a perfectly good pizza, we recommend you pass on this one. It was a fun attempt, but we won’t be back. There are plenty of better frozen pizza and flatbread options as TJ’s (like this one).

Side note, we don’t want to call it blatant misrepresentation, but our flatbread came out of the oven with mostly mushy fruit. It was a hot mess that looked nothing like the fun and festive product on the box.
