Hi friends,
as this is my first post i thought of making some sweet.but it lagged as 'ganapathykalyanam'. and now i was craving for dates pickle as i love sweet dishes and dates too.my hubby is not fond of sweet dishes but i made it and make him taste it.it was very tasty with the sweetness of dates and sourness of tamarind along with the taste of fenugreek powder and asafoetida.
Ingredients : -
Dates(deseeded) | 250 gms |
Tamarind | Lemon size |
chillipowder | 3& 1/2 tsp |
Fenugreek powder | 1 tsp |
asafoetida | 1/2 tsp |
Green chillies | 2 slit into pieces |
garlic | 2 cloves chopped |
ginger | 1/2 inch piece chopped |
Curry leaves | 2 spring |
Mustard seeds | 1/2 tsp |
Sesame oil | 3 tblsp |
salt | As required |
water | As required |
Method
Soke the tamarind with little water for 10 minutes to take the juice
Place a kadai on stove, when hot add oil and mustard seeds to hot oil. After mustard seed splutters add fenugreek powder and asafoetida.not burn them.keep the Flame low.then add Chopped Ginger garlic green chillies and curry leaves.saute it for 2 to 3 minutes.lastly add chilli powder.saute well for 1 min
Now add dates and suate it.Add the tamarind juice and salt to it. just add enough water to cook dates. dates can be cooked easily. if needed you can jaggery or sugar to adjust sweetness. you can add vinegar instead of tamarind juice
Keep the flame on medium and stir occasionally.cook till the water evaporates and the pickle thickens with occasional stirring. switch off the flame. when it cools down transfer it to a glass jar. better keep refrigerated since it has no vinegar. enjoy with any rice.
make it on your own risk.hehe.. just kidding. please share your experience with me so I can improve
