The Selection
Today marks 1 full year on my mission to have a unique dinner every Sunday night. It's been a fun experience, I've tried many different types of food combinations (my primary motivation), learned some cooking lessons, struggled on several weekends to find new recipes, and most important of all, succeeded in not making any family members sick.
It's time to carry forward year number 2!!
I have skipped several great looking meals due to requirements for long marinating times (I generally hit the grocery store on Sunday mornings). This year I will be researching ahead of time specifically for these types of recipes. I will also see if I can balance a few more healthy recipes.
To start the 2nd year, I thought I would find a slow cooker pork recipe. This generally means pork shoulder or pork butt. I found close to 300 pork shoulder recipes on whittlerz.com. Since my very first Sunday recipe was Braised Short Ribs, I decided to go with the braised pork recipe.
To complete the meal, I also made some white rice (easy boil in water) and cooked some fingerling potatoes on the stove (some interesting colors and shapes to add to the plate).
Needless to say, great recipe recommended for all.

The Preparation
The pork shoulder has a bone running through it. The biggest chore was cutting the meat away from the bone. All cooking is done in a single pot (I used a dutch oven), which keeps it simple. To complete the meal, I also made some white rice (easy boil in water) and cooked some fingerling potatoes on the stove (some interesting colors and shapes to add to the plate).
The Outcome
The pork was super moist and tender with an absolutely great taste. The pork shoulder was about $6 for 2 pounds. Cheaper than steak with fabulous flavor. Pork is definitely where its at!Needless to say, great recipe recommended for all.
