LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS - General Magmar's Siege Machine of Doom

One of the LEGO range that has taken the top 3 spot of Clay's Christmas wish list is LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS. Not sure if it's because he's also called Clay, or because he loves the game and scan the power shields?

Although LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS General Magmar's Siege Machine of Doom (RRP £34.99, target age 8 - 14) is one of the lower value set, it is just as fascinating as the higher value sets because of the way the siege machine transforms, and it shows you what LEGO Technic pieces allow you to do with LEGO designs.

The set comes with our NEXO KNIGHTS hero Clay Moorington and his Hover Horse, which can hold his Claymore Sword and shield. It also comes with 3 scannable shields for the free downloadable mobile game app.

The set also comes with a really interesting LEGO minifigure - Flama, which has great fire details. The transparent helmet piece and the shape of its genie-like legs really gives it a fiery look! Comparing to Flama, General Magmar is slightly less impressive! The set also comes with the Book of Destruction.

When I first looked at the tank-like vehicle, I couldn't quite figure out the design, because there is quite a lot of details on it. Through building the set with Clay (he's so lazy and wanted me to find the pieces for him!), we worked the details out, and it's actually a very beautiful design. The transparent orange against the molten lava black and brown really makes it stand out.

As Clay built most of the machine, which for a 5 years old was quite difficult (he did really well), I didn't realise that the siege machine can be transformed, until we found out that it can do this:

Lift up the rear to transform it into a siege engine
That was such a surprise! It is so clever, and it revealed a hidden prison cell as well, making it feel like it's transformed into something completely different with just one move. The disc shooter works in both mode, but best in the siege machine mode. It is fairly powerful compared to the usual LEGO launchers, so do make sure you don't point it at anyone's eyes.

Both the vehicle and siege machine looks great (evil, but attractive), has plenty of functions, and comes with 3 LEGO minifigures, so even though it's only £34.99, I think it's comparable to the Axl's Tower Carrier that is £59.99 (although the tower carrier has more pieces).

If you have someone who loves LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS, but you have a budget, this is definitely a set worth getting.
