Garelu/vada/Medu vada

Plain Vada | Vada is also named as Garelu in telugu or also called as Medu vada.In India this vada is a traditional recipe as well as snack recipe also.While festivals this recipe must be prepared and put as a prasadam to god in each and every home mainly in South-India. My mom compulsory prepared this recipe at every festival in my home from my childhood, generally i ate this vada along with ginger chutney (in telugu it is termed as allam chutney)or sesame chutney (in telugu it is termed as nuvvula pachadi) even while eating with sambar also it is very good.

At evening snack time and morning breakfast time this medu vada is right recipe. Kids also like this recipe a lot because of its soft and crispiness by serving with hot hot sambar.

Medu vada is very rich in nutrients because we are using Urad Dhal as main ingredient all of us know urad dhal is rich in vitamin B and also it consists magnesium, potassium, calcium so it is very essential for womens,also it helps for diabetes people, helps for mens sexual problems.

Ingredients:-

Urad dhal-1 cup

curry leaves-1 or 2 spring

cumin seeds-1 tsp

Chopped ginger-1 tsp

Chopped green chilies-1 or 2

salt to taste

oil for deep frying

Water is required for water

Preparation Method:-

1.Initially take urad dhal in a bowl pour water and soak it till 4 to 5 hrs.

2.Later wash and rinse Soaked Urad Dhal.

3.Now add soaked urad dhal into a blender or grinder it’s your convinent by adding little bit water grind it into a smooth paste don’t add too much of water.

4.Add salt to taste, cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, chopped ginger mix it well.

5.Now take wet cloth put medium lemon sized dough  ball on it spread and make vada shape by putting a small hole at the center. Otherwise you have to use your hands instead of wet cloth but apply water on your hands put dough on your hand and make vada shape.

6. You may also use banana leaf or zip lock bags instead of wet cloth.

Frying vada:-

1.Heat oil in a wide bottomed pan on a medium flame .

2.After heating oil slowly add vada into the oil. Fry till vada becomes golden brown in colour.

3.Observe hotness of oil because the oil must be medium hot otherwise if oil heated too much then the vadas turn golden brown colour without cooking inside vada.So observe the hotness of oil.

4.Same process continue until the dough completed.After they turn into golden brown in colour serve this medu vada with coconut chutney or ginger chutney or sambar.
