Eat Your Water | Hydrating Foods

Why eat your water? Incorporating more healthy hydrating foods like fresh fruits and raw vegetables into your diet can help with hydration. More so than from a glass of water, your body is able to slowly absorb the liquids because they are trapped within the structure of the Food.

Eat your water for better hydration!

Drinking your recommended water for the day, based on your gender, weight, diet, exercise, and the weather can be a daunting task. Did you know that eating water-rich food like cucumbers, apples, or celery can actually help you reach your goals as well?

Why should I eat to stay hydrated?

One of the most common complaints I got from clients in the winter was dry skin. Lack of humidity in the air, along with the heat most likely being on in your home, can lead to cracking hands, itchy legs, and a face that feels rough. Sufficient hydration leads to relief more than just putting on lotion and moisturizers.

On the other side of the seasons, becoming dehydrated in summer can happen more rapidly through perspiration. Dr. Murad, a dermatologist for over 40 years, teaches that incorporating more fresh fruits and raw vegetables into your diet can help eliminate dehydration. When you eat your water, your body is able to slowly absorb the liquids because they are trapped in the structure of that food.

Cucumbers, which are 96% water, are a perfect example of a food to work into your diet! Other water-based foods include lettuce, celery, peppers, and watermelon.

Recipes to help with better hydration:

  • Crudité Platter – This traditional French appetizer is typically made up of fresh-cut and whole veggies with vinaigrette for dipping.
  • Cucumber Tomato Avocado Salad – While typically a summertime salad, these ingredients are available year-round. It makes a refreshing side or meal if you add a protein.
  • Everything Bagel Hummus – Dipping your water-rich foods into this hummus is everything.
